Happy Fri-Yay: Rug Regression, Room Assignments, & Strawberry Season

Happy Fri-yay! This afternoon I plan to be be sipping a Pimm’s Cup in the shade. Now I just have to get my husband to make me a Pimm’s Cup and get my toddler to chill…

But let’s talk about what’s happened around here this week!

RUG REGRESSION: Our new rug got delivered this past week and I’ve already rolled it up and put back the old one. I’ll talk more about this soon in a living room update post, but I think I’m done with trying to find a new rug for now. Probably just as well since Benji is early in the potty training process.

ROOM ASSIGNMENTS: Denis and I are talking about switching the office and Benji’s room because the A/C unit is right outside Benji’s room and, aside from terrifying him, it’s starting to mess with his sleep.

I’m kind of excited about this idea because I’ve been wanting to try out a mural in Benji’s room but the wall I would do it on is ever so slightly wider than the mural, literally like two inches wider. Buuuut, there’s a wall that could be perfect for the mural in the office, and BONUS, it doesn’t have any windows that I’d have to cut around.

Admittedly, the wrinkle in this plan is that Benji’s room is slightly smaller than the office, which is already a bit of a tight squeeze in terms of furniture placement, and even tighter when you add in the air mattress for guests.

One other wrinkle could be that I have no idea what Benji will be afraid of these days and I’m a little concerned he could be scared of the mural. It sounds weird but toddlers be crazy and their irrational (to us) fears are powerful.

STRAWBERRY SEASON: Have you noticed how much less expensive strawberries are right now? And also how delicious they are? I think strawberry season is officially here! And to avoid letting them go to waste after buying baskets and baskets of strawberries, I’ve been baking with them. (I’m not a baker, so this is a big deal. You may applaud me.) This week I baked these strawberry drop biscuits from the NY Times cooking app (highly recommended), not once but TWICE.

I also made lemony custard with strawberries. I messed this one up by putting the lemon juice in before even heating the heavy cream, and I was sure I’d end up with curdled grossness. But! Instead of tossing the mixture (my usual MO when I mess up during baking), I went for it just to see if it could be salvaged, and I’m happy to report that it did NOT curdle and was delicious.

If you’re interested in other strawberry goodness, may I recommend the strawberry spooncake? It’s my other go-to strawberry recipe, besides the biscuits, and it is so easy and yummy.
