Happy SaturYAY: Coffee Tables, Origami Face Masks, and Royal Doulton Dishes

Happy New Year’s, friends! While I put the finishing touches on a post about all of my plans for our home in 2022, let’s catch up!

How have you been?!

Here’s what I’ve been thinking about this past week:

Coffee Tables: We’re taking our coffee table set to Denis’s office because it will go so nicely with the furniture in there. And that means that it’s time to pick a new coffee table; something that should be sending me jumping for joy.

But I’ve learned from years of living with my husband that I usually have to be willing to commit to any piece of furniture that enters our home for a good 10 years (Denis gets attached to things and doesn’t like updating).

And since our couch is getting close to reaching the end of its time with us (we bought it 9 years ago off Craigslist), I’m finding myself shopping not just for a coffee table that works with our living room now, but also that will work with a future iteration of our living room. I think I’m getting close, but it’s been a bit tricky and leaves me wondering, why not just shop for a new couch at the same time as a new coffee table?

We have a two year old, so it’s not necessarily the best time to invest in a brand new sofa, but honestly when you have a little boy, when is a good time to invest in a new sofa? When he graduates from high school?

Origami Face Masks: A lot of my masks have ended up in the dryer at some point or another, so they’ve shrunk and are not at all comfortable. Other masks are just too thin for me to feel comfortable wearing with the Omicron surge. Cue my new mask!

I ordered two from this Etsy shop and they have been SO comfortable. It’s so much easier to talk and breathe with these on than any of my previous masks because there’s plenty of space around my nose and mouth. Also, the ear loops are made from nylons—like a small loop cut from a pair of nylon tights—so the stretch and comfort level around my ears is a 10/10.

Royal Doulton Bunnykins Dishes: Over Thanksgiving, my sister served Benji and her youngest soup in the Bunnykins bowls she and I used as little kids. Those bowls are almost 40 years old and they look close to perfect! Benji has pretty much aged out of his silicone dishes that stick to the table, so when it was time to order some new dishes for him, I decided to splurge on some Bunnykins. I bought one new set from Bed Bath & Beyond (20% off with the Beyond+ membership) and one vintage set from Etsy like this one (the bunnies are doing different things in each set). They’re officially his new favorite dishes and I love them, especially because unlike his melamine dishware, these can go in the microwave and the dishwasher (and I’m a sucker for nostalgia). I’ve also been listening to the Royal Doulton Music Hall song from Mary Poppins returns on repeat because I now know what Royal Doulton is.
